Flying Stars 2026: The Annual Chart, Sector by Sector

Every solar year, the nine stars of the flying star system (玄空飛星 xuánkōng fēixīng, "mysterious void flying stars") shift to new positions on the compass, and the feng shui character of each sector of your home shifts with them. This page gives you the full 2026 chart, which sectors the tradition treats as favorable this year, and the classical cures for the afflicted ones.

This chart is for the 丙午 (bǐngwǔ) Fire Horse year: February 4, 2026 to February 3, 2027. The annual stars change at Li Chun (立春 lìchūn, "start of spring," the solar new year), not at the Lunar New Year celebration. Before February 4, the 2025 chart still applies. This page is refreshed every year at the same boundary.

Where we are: Period 9

The flying star calendar runs in twenty-year periods, and we are in Period 9 (九運 jiǔyùn), which spans 2024 to 2043 and belongs to the trigram Li (離 lí, fire). In Period 9 the tradition treats star 9 as the reigning prosperity star and star 1 as the star of future prosperity, which makes the placement of those two stars the first thing to read in any annual chart.

The 2026 annual chart

South is shown at the top, following the classical convention for feng shui charts. To use it, stand in the center of your home with a compass and map each palace onto the corresponding sector of your floor plan, the same overlay method as the bagua map.

The three annual afflictions of 2026 sit as follows, confirmed across our sources:

The favorable sectors of 2026

Southeast: star 9, the reigning prosperity star. This is the strongest sector of the year. The tradition advises keeping the southeast bright, lively, and in regular use: a well-used living room or home office here is considered well placed. Plants suit this sector in the classical element logic, since wood feeds the star's fire. If your wealth corner practice already has you tending the corner diagonally opposite the door, the southeast of the whole house is the annual, whole-home version of that idea in 2026.

East: star 8, the wealth star. Star 8 was the reigning star of the previous period and the tradition treats it as still auspicious in Period 9, though gently fading. An active east sector, a main door in the east, or a room you genuinely live in here is considered favorable this year.

Center: star 1, the star of future prosperity. With star 1 in the heart of the home, the classical advice is simply to keep the center open, clean, and uncluttered so the qi (氣 qì, the vital energy) can circulate. A junk-filled center of the house is the one arrangement every school agrees against.

North: star 6, the heaven star, with a caveat. Star 6 is associated with mentors, helpful people, and unexpected support. But in 2026 the north also carries both the Year Breaker and the Three Killings, so the tradition's advice is to benefit from this sector quietly: use the room normally, keep it tidy, and do not renovate, drill, or dig in the north this year. The classical rule for the Three Killings is that you may face this direction but should avoid sitting with your back to it.

Northeast: star 4, the romance and scholarship star. The tradition links star 4 to study, writing, and relationships. A desk or study in the northeast is considered well supported in 2026. This is a good year to put a student's desk here, kept orderly.

The afflicted sectors of 2026, and the classical cures

None of this is cause for alarm. The tradition treats the annual afflictions as weather: you do not fear the rain, you carry an umbrella. The cures below are the classical ones, stated as the tradition states them.

South: the Five Yellow (五黃 wǔhuáng), sharing the sector with Tai Sui. The Five Yellow is the affliction the classics take most seriously, and in 2026 it lands in the south, the fire sector, where fire feeds this earth star and strengthens it. With the Grand Duke in the same palace, the south is the sector to leave in peace this year. The classical advice: no renovations, drilling, digging, or groundbreaking in the south of the home or garden between February 2026 and February 2027; keep the sector quiet and dim rather than busy and bright; remove strong reds, candles, and lamps, since fire feeds the star; and place metal here, traditionally six metal coins, a brass or copper object of real weight, or a metal wu lou (葫蘆 húlu, the gourd shape), because metal drains earth in the five element cycle. For Tai Sui, the old saying is that one does not break ground over the Grand Duke's head; the same stillness that calms the Five Yellow observes it.

Northwest: star 2, the illness star (二黑 èrhēi, the Two Black). The tradition associates this earth star with health complaints and links the northwest palace to the eldest man of the household. The classical cures mirror the Five Yellow's, at lower intensity: metal to drain the earth energy, most traditionally a metal gourd or a string of six coins, a calm and tidy sector, and no red or fire colors here this year. If a bedroom sits in the northwest, the tradition simply advises the metal cure and restful decoration, not evacuation. Nothing about this replaces a doctor, and the classics never claimed it did.

West: star 3, the quarrel star. Star 3 is a wood star associated with disputes, gossip, and legal friction. The classical counter is fire, which drains wood: warm colors, a red accent, good lighting. The tradition also advises against water features and new plants in the west this year, since both feed the wood star. If arguments tend to happen in one room of your house, better that room not be a western one in 2026.

North: Sui Po and San Sha, riding alongside the good star 6. Covered above: enjoy the sector, do not disturb it. All the noisy work, renovation in particular, should wait for a year when the north is clear.

What this page is, and is not

The annual stars are one layer of a larger system. They sit on top of your home's own natal chart and your personal directions, which do not change year to year. If you want the permanent layer, start with the eight mansions system and the room-by-room guides. And the tradition frames all of it the same way we do: an arrangement practice that supports the household, not a promise about what the year will bring.

The personal starting point is your kua number, which takes ten seconds to work out: the kua number calculator will give you yours, and with it your own favorable directions to read against this year's chart.
